If you use Photoshop, can be colored images in black and white.

In order to colorize an image in grayscale, or create an effect of monotony
(Photoshop) If you colorize an image in grayscale, choose Image> Mode> RGB Color to convert RGB image.
Perform one of the following methods to open the Hue / Saturation dialog:
Choose Image> Adjustments> Hue / Saturation.
(Photoshop) Choose Layer> New Adjustment Layer> Hue / Saturation. Click the dialog box New Layer.
Select the option "color". If the background color is black or white, the image is converted into red (0 °). If the foreground color is not black or white, the image is the tone of the foreground color. The brightness of each pixel is notchange.
(Optional) Use the Hue slider to select a new color. Use the saturation and brightness to adjust the saturation and brightness of the pixel.
Adobe Photoshop.
It can not be black and white.
If you have Photoshop, you can create a mask and use a link to the color channels for each color and the use of the multiplication of the adjustment. I've done this before and is very persuasive.
