How common is whooping cough (pertussis) these days? - how common is whooping cough

I thought it was primarily a disease of old times, when a vaccine now and all. But my niece is 2 years old and I did not even go? The children have never done before?

It is more common in adults than one might think.

They believe that the vaccine confers lifelong immunity, as previously assumed.

My children do not, but my aunt works at a school for children with special needs, and there was an epidemic. You say that like many things that make a return because of low immunization rates among children in this time. The parents are afraid of the effects of vaccines and held the shots now give things expanded and are now asking parents to vaccinate their children and themselves. I know that my aunt said the outbreak at the school was horrible and she finished with him.

When we plan, my pediatrician said that his first born, because the number of people who choose not to vaccinate, many of these "eradicate" the disease is making a comeback, and he has seen in at least one case of whooping cough in the week. Luckily my kids have not. We hope that the vaccine will work and they do not always have to deal with it.

Pertussis is common in Canada. There was an outbreak in the hospital near us in the winter.

It is not common at all. Last year there was a small outbreak in an elementary school here. Our son has never had. Croup was bad enough!
